Special EventsChayon-Ryu students enjoy the benefit of being able to visit other Chayon-Ryu schools. We have 27 locations in Texas and 20 in other States. Beach TrainingIn July, students from Chayon-Ryu schools across the US travel to Galveston, Texas to train on the beach and in the surf under Grandmaster Kim Soo's supervision. A formal class is held from 10:30-12:00 pm, but many students continue to train for hours. After formal training, students enjoy a barbeque lunch and live music at the private Beach House of Master John Stephens, which is located a short walk away from the training. The lunch and music are sponsored by Chayon-Ryu Black Belts. Outdoor Park TrainingIn Houston, outdoor training is held twice per year at Memorial Park. Chayon-Ryu students from far away travel to train in an outdoor setting. In Arlington, outdoor training is held at River Legacy Park. Rank ExamsRank exams are held to test the progress of students. These tests include demonstrating physical skills in addition to a written exam at each rank. Exams are held every other month on a Saturday. A potluck lunch follows the exam. Student families, friends, and non-testing students are encouraged to attend. Special ClassesThe Arlington school hosts Friday evening "Special Topics" training every few months. Past topics included: Advanced Falling, Shinai (Sword) Techniques, Advanced Hapkido, and Sparring Techniques. |
